The Cyber Security Research Center (CSRC) was established in 2009. It is one of the earliest research centers established in the School of Computer Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). The director of the CSRC is Prof. Fang Binxing, who is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The research team consists of 11 faculty members, including 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 3 distinguished professors, and 1 senior lecturer. The main research areas of the center include: artificial intelligence security, privacy protection, federated learning, blockchain, applied cryptography, etc.

CSRC has undertaken nearly 100 projects, including projects from the National Natural Science Fund, the National 863 Program, the National Innovation Fund, the Ministry of National Security Programs, various provincial and municipal science and technology programs, and university-enterprise cooperation projects. The research team has obtained 4 national and provincial scientific research awards, authorized more than 10 domestic and international patents, and published more than 100 papers in top international academic journals and conferences. CSRC has established several public platforms and joint labs such as the "Public Service Platform for Mobile Internet Application Security Industry" and the " Network Information Processing Public Platform of Shenzhen" funded by Shenzhen government, the "Natural Language Processing and Speech Microsoft Key Laboratory (Shenzhen)" cooperated with Microsoft Research Asia, the "Information Security and Bioinformatics Joint Laboratory" cooperated with Hong Kong University, and many joint laboratories established with famous companies such as QI-ANXIN and Tianjin Nanda General Data Technology. A number of research results have been industrialized applications and created significant social and economic benefits.
