Recently, the award ceremony of the 4th "Longson Cup" National Student Computer System Capability Challenge Competition was held in Nanjing. Students from the School of Computer Science and Technology of Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) won multiple awards in the competition.
The participating team "UltraMIPS" composed of 2018 undergraduates Li Chenghao, Gong Haochen, Liu Dingbang, and Ren Xiangyu of the School of Computer Science won the first prize in the finals, and the team "Xianyu" composed of Li Gengzhi, Hu Bohan, Shi Yang, and Wang Shikun won the third prize. The 2018 undergraduates Dong Yunsheng and He Jing also achieved the third prize in the individual competition.
Under the guidance of the two teachers, Qiu Jieting and Xue Rui of the Experimental and Innovative Practice Education Center, the participating members used the summer vocation to complete the CPU design, testing, optimization, and SOC building. The two teams ranked the fourth and twelfth respectively in the preliminary round and advanced to the final.
Dong Yunsheng and He Jing also advanced to the final with excellent results. In the finals, the contestants of our institute, with their solid theoretical foundation and innovative system design, were praised by expert judges in the final defense and achieved good results.
It is reported that more than 80 teams from 53 universities participated in the team competition, and more than 160 students from 66 universities participated in the individual competition. Through the preliminary expert evaluation, 31 teams and 18 students were selected in the team competition and individual competition respectively to enter the national final. The final was selected in four aspects, including performance test, system demonstration, implementation of custom instructions and technical defense.
The National Student Computer System Capability Challenge Competition is a large-scale competition for college students all over the country. It aims to promote the cultivation of innovative talents in the computer field, breakthroughs in high-end chips and core system technologies, and the cultivation of reserve talents for industrialization. The overall goal of this competition is to independently design "a general-purpose CPU, an operating system core, and a compilation system". It is the highest level subject competition related to the system capabilities of Chinese universities.
The success of the "Loongson Cup" competition is not only the result of the hard work of the participating players, but also the epitome of the college's curriculum reforms and accumulated experience over the past few years. The School of Computer Science, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) will also continue to optimize and upgrade the school's scientific and technological innovation capabilities and subject level, and provide strong support for cultivating high-end technical talents and industrialization reserve talents for computer chips and core systems urgently needed by the national strategy.
